Considerations for School-Based OTs and PTs Conducting Teletherapy:
A Response to COVID-19

Telehealth is an accepted service delivery model according to AOTA and APTA. The current pandemic has altered school-based service delivery. This webinar reviews the basics about technology, how to conduct therapy sessions, using a coaching model, ideas for session structure, and provides resources for OTs and PTs.

Kristen Murphy PT, DPT has been practicing physical therapy is various settings in the Chicagoland area for 16 years, including the school-based setting, home care, outpatient orthopedics, inpatient acute and rehab, and skilled nursing care. She joined EBS Healthcare in 2011 and currently is a supervisor for PT/OT school-based services in Southern Will County, Illinois. Kristen received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Illinois-Chicago. As an EBS employee, Kristen has assisted in developing programs and training EBS staff in foundational skills in the school-based setting, evidence-based practice for pediatric physical and occupational therapists, and ethics/jurisprudence considerations in the school-based therapy setting. She is a current regional PT director and assists with new EBS therapist mentoring. She is active in participation in continued learning with the Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy section of APTA. Cynthia Haynes, MBA, OTD, OTR/L is an OT Director for EBS Healthcare and is responsible for developing post-professional trainings with emphasis on continued competence and best practice strategies for early intervention and school-based therapists. She has worked as a clinician and director in a variety of settings including schools, early intervention and community preschools, a regional pediatric hospital, a pediatric rehabilitation center, and outpatient clinics. She was an Associate Professor in the OT program at Philadelphia University, an adjunct professor for Thomas Jefferson University, and professor at Keiser University. She has co-authored peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and presents regularly at the local and national level. She is a trainer for the AOTA sponsored Fieldwork Educator Certificate Program.
